Tundra Wilderness Tour
Traveling 54 miles into the park to the Toklat River rest area, the Tundra Wilderness Tour offers a bit of everything for visitors. Incredible scenery, a narrated history of the park road, and some of the best opportunities to view the park’s wildlife inhabitants await you on this tour. 

While we cannot promise or predict when wildlife will show, the tour allows plenty of opportunity to look for Dall sheep, moose, caribou, wolves, and grizzly bears. On days when Denali (Mt. McKinley) is visible, it may be possible to travel to Stony Hill Overlook, another eight miles down the road, and view the entire mountain from base to summit.

The Tundra Wilderness Tour buses are upgraded buses that feature drop down video screens. When your tour driver is able, he/she will take video footage of animals along the road. The picture will be projected onto the screen so everyone can enjoy the view. At the end of the day, you have the opportunity to purchase a “Windows into Wilderness” DVD which features some of the video footage shot from your tour!  You are able to purchase this on the bus or online after you return home.

A small snack and hot beverages are provided.

Other Tundra Wilderness Tour features:

• Morning or afternoon departures from area hotels.  The morning tours depart between 5:30AM and 7:30AM and are designed to get you back to catch your afternoon train or bus transportation connections.  The afternoon tours depart between 1:30PM and 3:30PM and allow you to arrive on the train from Fairbanks or coach and take a tour the same day.  Exact departure times are not guaranteed and are based on availability. 
• Tour stops approximately every 90 minutes for a restroom break. 
• A light snack and beverages are included. There are no food or beverage services once you begin your bus trip.  
• Wheelchair accessible buses are available on request when you make your reservation, and all stops are wheelchair accessible. 
• Suggested items to bring: warm clothes, raingear, camera and film, binoculars, and personal medication as necessary. 
• Alaska state law requires children under 4 years of age, to be in a car seat.  Parents are responsible for providing the appropriate car seat.
• Smoking or consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted on tour buses.

Teklanika Tundra Wilderness Tour
The winter months are harsh in Interior Alaska, and can sometimes take a hard toll on the Park Road. The National Park Service works hard to get the road open before visitors arrive, but sometimes Mother Nature has different ideas.  While the road corridor thaws and dries out and is suitable for bus travel, we offer a shortened version of the Tundra Wilderness Tour called the Teklanika Tundra Wilderness Tour. This 4-5 hour tour is fully narrated and travels to mile 30 of the Park Road to Teklanika River Overlook. This tour is only offered when the park road is not fully operational.

Other Teklanika Tundra Wilderness Tour features:

• Morning or afternoon departures.  The morning tours depart between 7AM – 9AM and are designed to get you back to catch your train or bus transportation.  The afternoon tours depart between 1PM and 3PM. Exact departure times are not guaranteed and are based on availability. 
• Tour stops approximately every 90 minutes for a restroom break. 
• Includes a light snack and hot beverages.  There are no food services once you enter Denali National Park.  
• Suggested items to bring: warm clothes, raingear, camera and film, binoculars, and personal medication as necessary. 
• Alaska state law requires children under 4 years of age, to be in a car seat.  Parents are responsible for providing the appropriate car seat.

Denali Natural History Tour
With a focus on the rich, cultural history of Denali National Park, the Denali Natural History Tour offers a program that portrays the diverse native and early pioneer influences of the area.  Your first stop is at the Wilderness Access Center to view “Across Time and Tundra” an award-winning short film that depicts early visitor experiences within the same area visited by Natural History Tour visitors. A stop at the still used ranger cabin at Savage River provides a living history glimpse of the folks who might have used the cabin at one time. At the Primrose turnaround point, you will experience a memorable Alaskan Native presentation that will enlighten you regarding how the land has been used for nearly ten thousand years. This approximately 4½ to 5 hour trip turns around at mile 17 of the Park Road.

Kantishna Experience
Follow the trails of Gold Rush pioneer Fannie Quigley to the old gold mining town of Kantishna on this all day adventure to the end of the Park Road.  Join both a Certified Interpretive Guide and a National Park Service Interpretive Ranger on this unique experience to learn more about the park and to spend time in Kantishna learning about its interesting history and role in Interior Alaska.  This trip lasts between 11 – 12 hours and is 90-miles one way.

The Kantishna Experience is the only adventure to Kantishna which includes a National Park Service Interpretive Ranger. The bus will pick up from area hotels between 6:45AM – 7:15AM and departs from the Wilderness Access Center at 7:30AM daily.  This new limited space program is sure to provide a unique experience in the park that you won’t want to miss.

Bus Tours
There is a $4.00 fee per ticket to change or cancel a reservation eight (8) or more days prior to arrival. All changes or cancellations made within seven (7) days of arrival are non-refundable.
