We Define Sustainability at Doyon/Aramark as...
"The ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
At Doyon/Aramark Joint Venture, we have a deep respect for and commitment to the environment. With our unique location within Denali National Park and Preserve, we recognize the need to protect this rare environment where we live, work and play. We also understand that sustainability is an ever-evolving practice and is not a destination.

Our Efforts
Awards
Recognized for environmental excellence:
- ISO 14001:2015 Certification
TRANSPORTATION AND FUEL
- Continued purchase of propane-powered buses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which already makes up nearly a third of our transportation system.
EFFICIENT OPERATIONS
Controlling energy usage across facilities.
- Occupancy sensors automatically control power use in workspaces.
- Lighting is being converted to energy-efficient LED systems.
|
How can I help? Turn off lights and close the doors when you leave your room. |
WATER CONSERVATION
Saving every drop.
- Water use for bus washing is reduced by using very controlled pressure washers.
- Sedimentation control in our bus washing operation protects the local watershed.
|
How can I help? Travel with a refillable water bottle. |
MINIMIZING WASTE
Denali National Park and Preserve was a pilot partner in the Zero Landfill Initiative.
- Plastic bags are not offered at retail or food outlets.
- Single-use plastic disposable service ware has been replaced with BPI certified compostable alternatives.
- Suppliers help to minimize all shipping packaging where possible and utilize bulk containers when feasible.
- Collection containers and bins are provided for guests to recycle during their visit. Visitors can find places to recycle plastics, cardboard, aluminum, glass, mixed paper, batteries, used propane canisters and more!
|
How can I help? As a guest, please take the extra steps to locate a recycling collection container. |
FOOD SOURCING
Increasing procurement of local, seasonal and responsibly sourced products.
- Fish is purchased from Alaska’s sustainable sources, reducing the number of miles it must travel.
- Only seafood on the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program’s “green” list, or occasionally “yellow” list, is purchased.
- Local producers are supported through the purchase of local goods whenever possible.
- Dairy products are RBsT hormone free, and eggs are cage-free.
- Vegetarian and vegan options are offered to our guests as well as house made desserts.
